Pest Control and High-Quality Garlic Production... Yeongcheon-si, Gyeongbuk, 'Jua Seed Renewal Support Project'

Pest Control and High-Quality Garlic Production... Yeongcheon-si, Gyeongbuk, 'Jua Seed Renewal Support Project' A production farm cultivating garlic Jua variety at Hwasan Nonghyup.

[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Yeo Jong-gu] Yeongcheon City in Gyeongbuk Province is implementing a support project for renewing Yeongcheon garlic seed cloves to improve the quality and increase the yield of Yeongcheon garlic.

Recently, the influx of Chinese garlic seeds and the continuous long-term use of general garlic seed cloves have increased various pest and disease damages. Additionally, the quality of garlic has deteriorated due to virus infections and other factors.

The city plans to distribute high-quality seed cloves produced through garlic clove cultivation at the Hwasan Nonghyup seed clove project site to local garlic farming households, aiming to achieve high quality and increase the yield of Yeongcheon garlic.

Garlic seed cloves are known to be resistant to various pests and diseases and yield 10-30% more, but they require separate cultivation and selection efforts.

The production period also takes 2-3 years, making it difficult for general garlic farming households to individually produce seed cloves.

Farmers wishing to purchase seed cloves for garlic seed renewal can apply for the project by visiting the administrative welfare center of their jurisdictional eup, myeon, or dong by the 31st of this month.

Eligibility for application requires farmers to have a residence in Yeongcheon City as of May and be registered members of the garlic mandatory fund, submitting a certificate of agricultural management entity registration when applying.
