Seoul City's Urgent Priorities: 'Real Estate Market Stabilization' and 'Revitalization of the Ordinary People's Economy' in Order
[Asia Economy Reporter Oh Ju-yeon] In the June 1 local elections, the proportion of respondents supporting Oh Se-hoon, the People Power Party candidate, as the next mayor of Seoul was higher than those who chose Song Young-gil, the Democratic Party candidate.
According to a survey conducted by Realmeter on behalf of MBN from the 2nd to the 3rd among 813 men and women aged 18 or older residing in Seoul, 52.6% responded that they would vote for candidate Oh Se-hoon as the next mayor of Seoul, which was higher than the 38.6% who chose candidate Song Young-gil. The gap between the two candidates was 14.0 percentage points, which is outside the margin of error.
Justice Party candidate Kwon Soo-jung received 1.7%, other candidates 0.9%, while undecided voters who answered "none" (2.4%) or "don't know" (3.8%) accounted for 6.2%.
Regarding the outlook on President-elect Yoon Seok-yeol's government performance, 48.1% said "will do well," while 47.0% said "will do poorly."
When asked about the "most urgent issue" in Seoul, "stabilizing the real estate market" was the highest at 32.1%, followed by "revitalizing the ordinary people's economy" at 20.2%. Next were "improving residential environment" at 13.0%, "expanding citizen safety and welfare" at 8.8%, and "solving youth unemployment" at 8.6%.
Next were "COVID-19 response and damage support" at 5.5%, "private education issues and resolving educational disparities" at 5.0%, and "improving transportation environment and expanding infrastructure" at 4.5%. Others accounted for 1.9%, and "don't know" was 0.5%.
Regarding the question on how to evaluate the Democratic Party's unilateral passage of part of the 'Prosecutorial Investigation Authority Reduction' (검수완박) bill, which gradually reduces prosecutorial investigation rights and recently passed the National Assembly plenary session, 40.5% responded "well done," while 53.1% responded "not well done."
Regarding President-elect Yoon's relocation of the office to Yongsan, 46.0% were in favor, and 50.9% were opposed.
The response rate for this survey was 6.1%, and the sampling error was ±3.4 percentage points at a 95% confidence level.
