Gyeonggi Province Governor, Kim Dong-yeon 47.9% vs Kim Eun-hye 38.8% [Realmeter]

Urgent Gyeonggi-do Issues: 'Expansion of Metropolitan Transportation Network', 'Extension and Additional Establishment of GTX Lines'

[Asia Economy Reporter Oh Ju-yeon] In the June 1 local elections, the proportion of people supporting Kim Dong-yeon, the Democratic Party candidate, as the next governor of Gyeonggi Province was found to be higher than that of Kim Eun-hye, the People Power Party candidate.

On the 4th, Realmeter conducted a survey commissioned by MBN from the 2nd to the 3rd targeting 815 men and women aged 18 and over residing in Gyeonggi Province, asking who they would vote for as the next governor of Gyeonggi Province. The results showed that candidate Kim Dong-yeon received 47.9%. Candidate Kim Eun-hye received 38.8%. The gap in support between the two candidates was 9.1 percentage points, which is outside the margin of error.


Independent candidate Kang Yong-seok received 5.6%, other candidates 1.5%, and undecided or no response accounted for 6.2%, with 2.3% saying none and 3.9% saying they did not know.


When asked which opinion they agreed with regarding this local election?whether "the Democratic Party must win to check the new government" or "the People Power Party must win to support the new government"?47.8% said "the Democratic Party must win," 42.2% said "the People Power Party must win," and 10.0% said they did not know.


Regarding the intention to vote in the June 1 local elections, 88.0% responded that they intend to vote, while 10.6% said they do not intend to vote.


In terms of party support, the Democratic Party received 41.6%, and the People Power Party received 40.0%, with a difference of 1.6 percentage points, which is within the margin of error.


Regarding President-elect Yoon Seok-yeol’s expected performance in office, 44.2% said he would do well, while 49.9% said he would not do well.

When asked about the "most urgent issue" in Gyeonggi Province, "expansion of the metropolitan transportation network (23.5%)" and "extension and additional establishment of GTX lines (17.0%)" were most frequently cited as urgent issues.


Following that, "reconstruction and remodeling of the first generation new towns" accounted for 13.5%, and "relaxation of regulations in metropolitan border areas" was 12.5%.


Next were "establishment of a 4th industrial technology research complex" at 9.1%, "advancement of core industry structure" at 6.7%, and "construction of the 3rd National Cemetery" was the lowest at 1.9%. Others accounted for 6.7%, and 9.2% said they did not know.


The response rate for this survey was 6.7%, and the sampling error was ±3.4 percentage points at a 95% confidence level.
