[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Hwang Du-yeol] Lee Haesol, a graduate of Dong-Eui University’s Digital Content major, won two awards including the Best Work Award and the Agora Award in the Operation Kino category at the 39th Busan International Short Film Festival (BISFF) with the film "Seungwoo."
The documentary "Seungwoo" captures the present and past of Choi Seungwoo, who suffered state violence at the Brothers Home during his childhood, and portrays his daily life living with those memories.
The Dong-Eui University team aimed to convey the lives and emotions of the victims to the audience rather than focusing on an event-centered narrative.
The production involved senior students Jeon Eun-jin, Kim Min-kyung, and Chae Yoo-bin from the Digital Content major at Dong-Eui University.
Lee Haesol, the director of the award-winning work, said, "I am grateful to Mr. Choi Seungwoo and the surviving victims who appeared in the film, and I hope this work leads to social interest in victims of state violence such as the Brothers Home incident."
At last year’s 38th Busan International Short Film Festival, the Operation Kino category awarded the Best Work Award and Agora Award to "San23-1, X," directed by Lee Min-ho, a graduate of Dong-Eui University’s Digital Content major.
The work "Ttobagi" by So Yoon Cho, majoring in Journalism and Broadcasting, and Go Eun Lee, majoring in Advertising and Public Relations, was also selected for the Excellence Award, with Dong-Eui University sweeping all three award categories, demonstrating outstanding achievements in digital content, film, journalism and broadcasting, and advertising and public relations fields.
The Operation Kino category is a short film production support project started by the Busan International Short Film Festival and Jung-gu, Busan, to nurture film talents in the Busan area.
This year, six teams including those from Dong-Eui University and Pusan National University were selected to compete in the 11th Operation Kino.
