[Jeju=Asia Economy Reporter Yoo Hyun-seok] The International Electric Vehicle Expo (IEVE) was held on the 3rd at the Jeju International Convention Center in Seogwipo, Jeju.


Marking its 9th edition this year, the expo started on this day and will continue until the 6th at the Jeju International Convention Center and the Jungmun Tourist Complex area.


The International Electric Vehicle Expo was scaled down for the 7th and 8th editions due to COVID-19. However, this year it is held as a large-scale event for the first time in two years. This year’s expo was conducted with various programs such as exhibitions, conferences, B2B business meetings, test drives, and experience events, befitting the title of the "Olympics of e-mobility."

In particular, the exhibition program held both on-site and in the digital virtual space featured electric vehicle brands Tesla and Polestar, as well as micro electric vehicle company MyB. Tesla provided test drive experiences at the Teddy Bear Museum within the Jungmun Tourist Complex along with the on-site exhibition. Polestar also held test drive events.


Global battery company Samsung SDI participated together with BMW to showcase its technology. The exhibited vehicle was the IX, equipped with Samsung SDI’s Gen.5 battery. Additionally, Korea Electric Power Corporation, global agricultural machinery company Daedong, and urban electric three-wheeler brand DSEV displayed their products.


Alongside these, eco-friendly small ship and propulsion system company Vincendo exhibited eco-friendly ships. Vincendo CEO Lee Chil-hwan explained, "We have established a branch in Singapore and are conducting business with other countries as well," adding, "We expect to showcase a commercialized model domestically next year."

Additionally, autonomous driving solution company Autonomous A2G conducted an experience where vehicles at the K-CITY driving test site of the Automobile Safety Research Institute in Hwaseong, Gyeonggi Province, were remotely controlled and driven from Jeju using a 5G communication network.


Moreover, various conferences were held at the expo. Over 100 sessions of conferences and forums took place, featuring diverse and in-depth discussions on trends and visions in the electric vehicle industry. Kim Dae-hwan, director of the International Electric Vehicle Expo, emphasized, "Tesla and Polestar participated in this expo," and added, "Various companies including Vincendo and MyB also attended."


Meanwhile, on the same day, the Korea Automobile Journalists Association signed a business agreement with the International Electric Vehicle Expo at the Halla Hall of the Jeju International Convention Center. The agreement, attended by Lee Seung-yong, president of the Korea Automobile Journalists Association, Kim Dae-hwan, director of the International Electric Vehicle Expo, and other officials, aims to promote the development and exchange expansion of Korea’s eco-friendly e-mobility industry.
