[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Park Jin-hyung] The Western Fire Station of Gwangju Metropolitan City announced on the 3rd that it is conducting the 4th 119 Culture Award Contest.
The 119 Culture Award has been implemented since 2019 to spread safety culture through literary and artistic works and to enhance understanding and value of firefighting.
The themes of the works are related to firefighting, such as on-site activities and past disasters. The contest categories include literature (fairy tales, novels), art (imaginary paintings, documentary paintings), and special awards (essays). The special award is limited to themes such as the effectiveness of installing residential fire alarms (standalone smoke detectors) and cases where hearing the alarm led to evacuation, preventing casualties.
Eligibility is open to all citizens aged high school students and above, including both new and established writers. The total prize money is 20 million won, and the submission period is for the entire month of July. Online submissions are available on the 119 Culture Award website.
A fire official said, “We ask for the interest and participation of many talented people so that creative and diverse art and literary works related to firefighting themes can be produced.”
