[Asia Economy New York=Special Correspondent Joesulgina] Poongsan Group and the American think tank Center for Strategic and International Studies (CSIS) will jointly receive the 'Van Fleet Award' for their contributions to the development of Korea-US relations.
The Korea Society, a Korea-US friendship nonprofit organization, announced on the 2nd (local time) that Poongsan and CSIS were selected as the recipients of the 2022 Van Fleet Award. The Van Fleet Award, one of the most prestigious awards in the Korea-US field, has been presented annually since 1992 by the Korea Society to individuals or organizations that have contributed to Korea-US relations.
The Korea Society explained, "Chairman Ryu Jin of Poongsan Group has long promoted friendship between the two countries and strongly supported the Korea-US alliance." CSIS was recognized for broadening the understanding of major policy issues among the peoples of both countries.
The Korea Society plans to present plaques to Poongsan and CSIS at the 2022 annual dinner to be held on September 22 at the Plaza Hotel in Manhattan, New York.
The Van Fleet Award was established to honor General James Van Fleet, who participated in the Korean War as commander of the U.S. Eighth Army and founded the Korea Society in 1957.
