[Asia Economy Reporter Moon Chaeseok] SK PIC Global, a chemical business investment company of SKC, has partnered with the Korea Research Institute of Chemical Technology (KRICT) to collaborate on research and development (R&D) for processes and products that reduce greenhouse gas and pollutant emissions.

On the 29th of last month, the two organizations signed a "Mutual Cooperation Agreement for Eco-friendly and Low-carbon Technology R&D" at the KRICT headquarters in Yuseong-gu, Daejeon. The signing ceremony was attended by Won Gidon, CEO of SK PIC Global, and Lee Mihye, President of KRICT, among others.

Through this agreement, the two institutions will cooperate on developing manufacturing processes and wastewater treatment technologies, as well as eco-friendly materials utilizing by-products generated during the production of basic materials.

SK PIC Global plans to develop a propylene glycol (PG) manufacturing process that is highly efficient and reduces greenhouse gas emissions. PG is a high value-added material widely used in food, pharmaceuticals, and cosmetics.

Both parties will also promote the development of new materials that contribute to greenhouse gas reduction and jointly develop new eco-friendly wastewater treatment technologies.

SK PIC Global expects that this agreement will significantly contribute to achieving SKC's announced goal of '2040 Greenhouse Gas Net Zero.' A representative from SK PIC Global stated, "Based on the mutual cooperation agreement with KRICT, we will establish a continuous cooperation system by deriving new R&D projects," adding, "Through this, we will secure ESG (Environmental, Social, and Governance) material solutions in the chemical sector and contribute to achieving '2040 Greenhouse Gas Net Zero.'"
