[Asia Economy Reporter Oh Ju-yeon] Oh Young-hoon, a preliminary candidate for the Jeju Province Governor from the Democratic Party of Korea, resigned from his position as a member of the National Assembly (Jeju-si Eul) on the 29th. This procedure follows his final confirmation as the Jeju Governor candidate after securing more than half (53.13%) of the votes in the party primary on the 27th.

On the same day, Oh held a press conference at the National Assembly and said, "I intend to relinquish my position as a member of the National Assembly, where I have worked passionately as a re-elected lawmaker, for the righteous victory of the Republic of Korea, Jeju, and the Democratic Party."

Oh expressed his apologies to the residents of his constituency, Jeju-si Eul, saying, "Regardless of the reason, I am sorry and feel remorseful for not being able to complete my term as a member of the National Assembly."

He added, "I sincerely bow my head in gratitude for the courage and strength you have given me to take on the greater challenge of becoming the Governor of Jeju Province," emphasizing, "I will surely grow into a greater figure to repay you, and together we will make the dream of a better Republic of Korea and a happy Jeju for all residents a reality, so that we can all smile together."

He said, "'Neoyoung Nayoung' (a Jeju dialect phrase meaning 'you and me') hand in hand, if the people of the Republic of Korea and Jeju people all join hands and move forward together, our future will undoubtedly be bright," adding, "Regardless of ideology, generation, class, or gender, I start with the hearts of all citizens and Jeju residents." He continued, "I will create a righteous victory for the Republic of Korea, Jeju, and the Democratic Party and stand proudly before the people and residents of Jeju."
