About 50 people participated in the drill, including officials from the Yeongsangang River Basin Environmental Office, Yeongsangang Flood Control Office, Gurye-gun, Gurye Police Station, Unit 7391-3, Korea Water Resources Corporation, and river construction site personnel.
The drill was conducted assuming a risk situation where the embankment height at the old Muncheokgyo Bridge embankment on the Seomjin River, a flood-vulnerable area with embankment height lower than the flood level due to rising water levels from heavy rain, overflows, and the drainage gate is not remotely controlled.
In particular, this drill focused on improving initial flood response capabilities by minimizing human and property damage through flood risk resident publicity, traffic control, mobilization system of flood control equipment, materials, and manpower, and inspection of cooperation systems with related organizations.
Meanwhile, from May 15 to October 15, the natural disaster countermeasure period, a disaster countermeasure situation room will be operated with step-by-step emergency duty according to weather conditions.
Kim Seung-hee, head of the Yeongsangang River Basin Environmental Office, stated, “We will do our best to protect the lives and property of the people from flood damage this summer by establishing a field-centered disaster response posture that can respond immediately to any disaster situation and a cooperation support system among related organizations.”
