7 out of 10 People Say "I Will Use Legal Platforms"... Positive Responses Prevail

[Asia Economy Reporter Kim Bo-kyung] About 7 out of 10 citizens showed a positive response to using legal platforms.


The Korea Startup Forum, a non-profit organization, announced the results of a nationwide survey on the legal tech industry conducted on 1,025 men and women aged 18 and over on the 28th.


When asked about their willingness to use legal platforms, 66.6% of respondents answered "I would use it." The reasons cited included ▲being able to conveniently search and compare information online (26.4%) ▲easily accessing necessary legal services without time and space constraints (22.6%) ▲receiving necessary services at reasonable prices (19%) ▲anyone being able to transparently check legal-related information (18.4%), among others.


Among legal-related services, the most needed area was legal consultation services (35.6%). Other services included legal information content (12.7%), automatic legal document drafting (11.9%), judgment search services (10.9%), lawyer search services (10.1%), and electronic contract services (6.3%).


Citizens' expectations that they could meet suitable lawyers at reasonable prices through legal platforms were also confirmed. 66.8% of respondents had a positive outlook on the changes that legal platform usage would bring.


Specifically, they chose ▲comparing and analyzing various information to make choices that suit them (26.4%) ▲using legal services more easily and conveniently (24.9%) ▲using services at reasonable costs (15.5%).

The majority of citizens still perceive the law as distant. 63.5% of all respondents answered that they "do not know even one" lawyer.


When asked whether they could easily find information about desired lawyers, 25.7% answered "not at all" and 26.8% answered "no," showing that 52.5% of respondents were dissatisfied with the accessibility of lawyer information.


When looking for a lawyer, the most considered factors were the lawyer's specialty and case history (42.4%) and price information such as consultation fees and retainers (23.7%).


Choi Sung-jin, CEO of Kospo, stated, "The public's expectation to conveniently obtain lawyer information and receive consultations through legal platforms has been confirmed," adding, "More active policy support is needed to revitalize platforms and foster the legal tech industry for consumer benefits."


This survey was conducted over two days, the 16th and 17th, through Realmeter, a professional polling agency. The sampling error was ±3.1 percentage points with a 95% confidence level. The sample was composed of 90% mobile phone and 10% landline phone respondents via ARS automated response survey.
