Seoul City Launches Pilot Service for Ultra-Realistic Metaverse Experience

Seoul City Launches Pilot Service for Ultra-Realistic Metaverse Experience [Seoul Metropolitan Government Plaza inside Seoul Institute of Technology Metaverse]

The Seoul Metropolitan Government and the Seoul Institute of Technology will pilot open a hyper-realistic metaverse service on the 2nd to enhance Seoul's urban competitiveness by contributing to the economy, society, and culture through public-private collaboration.

This project involves 3D Factory Co., Ltd., a big tech company in the metaverse field, implementing and verifying the technology planned by the Seoul Institute of Technology using its proprietary metaverse technology, while jointly conducting research on future expansion plans.

The hyper-realistic metaverse, developed for the first time in Korea using Unreal Engine 5, is based on a virtual space consisting of the Seoul City Hall Plaza area and indoor event venues, featuring real-time synchronization technology that allows users to see changes according to seasons and time. It also provides real-time public information services, a video chat system with screen sharing and external video streaming capabilities, and a translation system for overseas visitors.

In this regard, the Seoul Metropolitan Government's Economic Policy Division plans to incorporate the increasing demand for virtual worlds and metaverse into Seoul's new industry fostering economic policies. They will also establish and promote plans to realize a meta-economy by integrating various smart technologies to implement industrial and tourism resources of major Seoul hubs in an online virtual space, linking and advancing economic activities.

Additionally, the Seoul Spatial Information Office will provide virtual immersive extended services by linking the 3D S-MAP with themed metaverse spaces such as economy and culture in real time, and will continuously offer immersive services that citizens cannot experience in reality, such as the reproduction of Yukjo Street.

The Seoul Institute of Technology plans to continue verification through various smart technologies (NFTs, virtual payments, etc.) so that creations by private creators can be connected, circulated, and grown within the metaverse through related research.

The Seoul hyper-realistic metaverse platform will be accessible for download and connection on May 2nd (Monday) via the Seoul Institute of Technology website and the 3D Factory website.
