Democratic Party Gyeongnam Governor Candidate Yang Mun-seok and Jeju Governor Candidate Oh Young-hoon Selected

[Asia Economy Reporter Naju-seok] The Democratic Party of Korea has selected former Vice Chairman of the Gyeongnam Provincial Party Committee Yang Mun-seok as its candidate for the Gyeongnam Governor in the June 1 local elections, and Representative Oh Young-hoon as its candidate for the Jeju Governor.

According to the Democratic Party's Central Election Commission on the 27th, former Vice Chairman Yang won a narrow victory over current Gyeongnam Provincial Assembly member Shin Sang-hoon with 50.07% of the vote to Shin's 49.93%. Although Representative Shin received 45.38% of the votes, after applying a 20% youth bonus, he was narrowly defeated by a margin of 0.14 percentage points. As a result, former Vice Chairman Yang will face incumbent Representative Park Wan-su in the race for Gyeongnam Governor.

In Jeju, Representative Oh secured 53.13% support to defeat Moon Dae-rim, former Chairman of the Jeju Free International City Development Center, who received 46.87%. Representative Oh will compete against Heo Hyang-jin, former President of Jeju National University and the People Power Party's candidate for Jeju Governor.
