SC Engineering Signs Business Agreement with Bagel Labs for Digital Therapeutics Development

[Asia Economy Reporter Hyungsoo Park] SC Engineering announced on the 27th that it has signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) with digital therapeutics developer Bagel Labs to promote technical and business collaboration in the digital healthcare field.

According to the agreement, various collaborations will be sought between the bio-healthcare business divisions of SC Engineering and its subsidiary Cellontec, and the digital healthcare business division of Bagel Labs.

Bagel Labs is an Internet of Things (IoT)-based company that connects doctors and patients to provide comprehensive chronic disease management solutions. It is conducting clinical trials for the development of digital therapeutics for diabetes. Digital therapeutics (DTx) use software such as smartphone apps for disease prevention, management, and treatment, emerging as a new treatment option.

Bagel Labs' digital therapeutics for diabetes are based on algorithm technology specialized in lower body exercise and a remote monitoring system for biometric data. It provides 24-hour continuous real-time personalized treatment and management without spatial or temporal restrictions for type 2 diabetes, a chronic disease mainly caused by obesity. It was developed to contribute to health improvement, such as blood sugar control, by inducing lower body muscle strength increase through an artificial intelligence (AI)-based motion recognition exercise app.

Bagel Labs CEO Suhong Park explained regarding the agreement, "SC Engineering's internal medicine areas such as health functional food products and diet programs, and Cellontec's orthopedic areas such as biocollagen-based medical devices will be added."

He added, "By utilizing Bagel Labs' digital healthcare solutions, it will be possible to implement a health management system encompassing dietary therapy, exercise therapy, regenerative treatment, and rehabilitation therapy."

Bagel Labs is currently promoting progressive cooperation to commercialize its solutions following the joint execution of a Ministry of SMEs and Startups national project on chronic disease management solution development with healthcare company Sanofi-Aventis Korea.

Jinwoo Hyung, Head of New Business Division at SC Engineering, said, "Bagel Labs pursues fundamental management and treatment of diseases through digital therapeutics," adding, "This aligns with the bio-healthcare business directions of SC Engineering and Cellontec."

He emphasized, "Amid the rapid rise of digital healthcare, we will advance our new business portfolio leveraging Bagel Labs' abundant growth potential," and "We will make every effort to improve patients' quality of life with bio-healthcare solutions enhanced by digital innovation."
