[Asia Economy Reporter Park Hyesook] Geomdan General Industrial Complex, a representative industrial complex in the northern area of Incheon, is undergoing a major transformation by changing its name to 'Beautiful Park.'
On the 27th, the city announced that it changed the name of Geomdan Industrial Complex to Beautiful Park to break away from the outdated image of the industrial complex, which is the foundation of the local economy and a key driver of economic growth, and to enhance its brand value.
Taking this name change as an opportunity, the city plans to promote advanced eco-industrial complex projects such as design environment improvement, odor control facility upgrades at the Geomdan wastewater treatment plant, and the creation of a design eco-street to establish Beautiful Park as Incheon’s representative eco-friendly industrial complex.
Through these projects, the city aims to transform the industrial complex into a space where industry and culture, tradition and youth coexist, thereby resolving the reluctance of young people to work in industrial complexes and making it a place where everyone wants to work.
Beautiful Park is an industrial complex completed in 2014 on a 2.24 million square meter site in Oryu-dong, Seo-gu, Incheon, currently housing about 990 companies with approximately 10,000 employees.
Meanwhile, Incheon City is promoting the 'Beautiful Factory Award' project to improve the image of small and medium-sized enterprises through the renovation of aging industrial facilities. From 2016 to last year, a total of 14 companies were selected, and these companies receive preferential benefits in various support projects.
Additionally, to change the negative perception of industrial complexes and improve working conditions for young workers, the city is also implementing a large-scale industrial culture space renovation project, which includes creating cultural and artistic experience spaces, collaboration spaces, and ecological exploration trails within the industrial complex.
An Incheon city official stated, "Through projects to improve the environment and perception of industrial facilities, we will make the industrial complex a pleasant workplace during the day and a space where citizens can visit to enjoy culture and arts at night."
