Seoul City Opens 3rd Youth Employment Academy in Mapo Following Yeongdeungpo and Geumcheon Geumcheon Campus Digital Transformation Curriculum

[Asia Economy Reporter Lim Cheol-young] The third campus of the ‘Youth Employment Academy,’ which provides practical skills training in digital new technologies of the 4th industrial revolution such as software (SW) to job-seeking youth in their 20s and 30s and connects them to employment and entrepreneurship, will open on the 29th at Seoul Startup Hub located in Mapo.

On the 27th, the Seoul Metropolitan Government announced plans to operate the ‘Youth Employment Academy’ Mapo Campus as a dedicated campus specialized for digital transformation education to further strengthen employment support for humanities graduates struggling with narrow job opportunities.

At the ‘Youth Employment Academy Mapo Campus,’ a total of three courses (90 people) in digital transformation education will be offered: ▲Service Planning (30 people) ▲Digital Marketing (30 people) ▲Web Publishing (30 people). Since the goal of the Mapo Campus is to enhance the digital capabilities of humanities students and non-majors, ‘partners (instructors)’ with prior teaching experience in the same courses participate as education operators to improve class efficiency. They were reselected based on evaluations such as trainee satisfaction, job linkage efforts, and learning effectiveness from the Geumcheon Campus curriculum.

In particular, since the Mapo Campus is located at Seoul Startup Hub, students can receive practical entrepreneurship support such as mentoring from senior entrepreneurs and space support, as well as a one-stop employment linkage program that provides 1:1 job counseling and company matching immediately upon admission.

Meanwhile, new campuses are scheduled to open in Yongsan and Gangdong by November, and the new campuses will also operate ‘digital transformation education courses’ for non-majors (humanities students) along with developer training courses. The curriculum to be operated at the newly opened campuses is being designed to cultivate talent needed in actual corporate sites, and a survey targeting company CEOs and HR recruiters is currently underway to design education courses for ‘field-oriented talent development’ required by real workplaces, aiming to enhance education quality.

Hwang Bo-yeon, Director of Seoul City’s Economic Policy Office, said, “From the end of this year, four campuses of the ‘Youth Employment Academy’ in Geumcheon, Mapo, Yongsan, and Gangdong will operate specialized courses that can enhance the digital competitiveness of IT non-majors and humanities students.” He added, “Seoul City will expand customized employment solutions to ease the employment difficulties of humanities students and actively promote the restoration of the job ladder.”
