Anyang Wills Memorial Hospital Directors Kim Ji-yeon and Hong Hyun-jin Participate in Writing Bidirectional Spinal Endoscopy Textbook

Director Ji-yeon Kim, a neurosurgery specialist at Anyang Wills Memorial Hospital Spine Center, is posing for a commemorative photo holding a plaque of appreciation received from the UBE Research Association.

[Asia Economy Reporter Lee Gwan-joo] Anyang Wills Memorial Hospital announced on the 27th that Director Kim Ji-yeon and Director Hong Hyun-jin of the Spine Center participated in writing the world's first published textbook on Unilateral Biportal Endoscopic Spine Surgery (Springer).

Directors Kim and Hong, together with the Unilateral Biportal Endoscopic Spine Surgery Research Society (UBE Research Society), authored a textbook containing advanced surgical techniques and accumulated expertise in biportal endoscopic spine surgery, scheduled for publication next month.

Director Kim was responsible for two of the 18 chapters and played a key role as an editorial board member in compiling the textbook. The sections written by Director Kim are "Decompression Surgery for Disc Herniation and Stenosis Using Unilateral Biportal Endoscopy: Contralateral Approach" and "Surgery for Cervical Stenosis and Spinal Cord Neuropathy Using Unilateral Biportal Endoscopy." Director Hong was in charge of the chapter titled "Posterior Cervical Foraminotomy and Discectomy Using Unilateral Biportal Endoscopy."

Prior to the textbook publication, at the 'UBE Research Society Textbook Publication Commemorative Case Conference' held on the 23rd at Bundang Barun Sesang Hospital, Director Kim presented surgical techniques for successfully removing epidural cysts compressing cervical spinal nerves using unilateral biportal endoscopy and introduced the publication process of this textbook based on actual experience as a textbook editorial committee member.

Director Kim was especially recognized for her key contributions to the textbook compilation and received a plaque of appreciation from the UBE Research Society. She stated, “Unilateral biportal endoscopic spine surgery in Korea is rapidly advancing, and Anyang Wills Memorial Hospital is at the center of this progress. As we enter an aging society, many patients suffer from spinal diseases, and we will continue to conduct relentless research to provide essential surgeries for patients.”
