Suncheon City Promotes Long-Term Stay Travel Project 'Zero Waste Travel in Suncheon'

"Travel as Daily Life, Daily Life as Travel" Experience and Feel Namdo Directly!

Recruiting Long-term Travel Hopefuls for Suncheon from Gwangju, Jeonnam, and Other Areas Until the 29th

Suncheon City Promotes Long-Term Stay Travel Project 'Zero Waste Travel in Suncheon'

[Suncheon=Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Lee Hyung-kwon] Suncheon City in Jeollanam-do announced on the 26th that it will carry out a long-term stay travel project called ‘Zero Waste Travel in Suncheon’ to promote Suncheon’s tourism resources in line with the lifting of COVID-19 social distancing measures.

This project is part of Jeollanam-do’s ‘One Month Travel in Namdo’ initiative. With the increase in interest in domestic travel instead of overseas trips reduced due to the spread of COVID-19, it offers content that allows families, couples, and friends to stay in one place, such as camping or car camping, to experience the unique tastes and charms of the region rather than group tours.

The city plans to select hopeful participants who have no experience living in the Gwangju and Jeonnam areas to stay long-term in Suncheon, directly experience various travel destinations throughout Jeollanam-do, and promote these experiences through SNS and other channels to increase tourist visits and revisit rates.

In particular, the project is designed with the concept of ‘value consumption for the Earth and future generations,’ minimizing waste generation by encouraging the use of tumblers and reusable containers, aligning with Suncheon’s image as South Korea’s ecological capital.

Applicants wishing to participate must submit application documents, including a travel plan, by mail or email to the Suncheon City Tourism Division by the 29th.

Considering promotional effects, the participants will be prioritized from travel writers, artists, famous bloggers, YouTubers, influencers, and the MZ generation, selecting about 30 people in 10 teams.

Participants will receive support for accommodation (up to 70,000 KRW per day), transportation (up to 20,000 KRW), meals (up to 30,000 KRW), and tourism expenses (up to 20,000 KRW) for a period of 7 to 10 days, and additionally, travel insurance (up to 20,000 KRW) will be provided.

From June to November, participants will directly see and feel the taste and charm of Suncheon through various programs such as sightseeing tours, urban, rural, and nature experience programs, and Suncheon Hansang cuisine, and promote the results through their personal SNS.

A representative from the Suncheon City Tourism Division stated, “Instead of supplier-oriented tourism promotion and marketing, it is expected to have a great effect in securing diversity and increasing reliability of travel information by having program participants post their experiences directly on YouTube or SNS.” They added, “We hope many people will take interest and participate in this opportunity to stay in Suncheon, South Korea’s ecological capital, and build memories through rest, healing, and experiencing the pristine natural environment and food.”
