International Broadcasting Equipment Exhibition Opens After 3 Years... Korean Equipment Companies Participate

[Asia Economy Reporter Minyoung Cha] Domestic small and medium-sized broadcasting and telecommunications equipment companies showcased ultra-high-definition (UHD) broadcasting equipment at the world's largest broadcasting equipment expo, the 'National Association of Broadcasters (NAB) Show 2022,' which opened for the first time in three years.

The Korea Broadcasting and Telecommunications Association (KBTA) announced on the 26th that on the 24th (local time), together with the Korea Trade-Investment Promotion Agency (KOTRA) and nine domestic companies, it opened an exhibition booth at Hall C of the Las Vegas Convention Center in the United States.

The NAB Show is the world's largest broadcasting equipment exhibition held since 1922. This year, it was held offline for the first time in three years since the outbreak of COVID-19, with about 1,800 companies from over 160 countries participating, including manufacturers of production, audio, video, transmission, broadcasting, reception equipment, as well as editing and display specialists.

This year's participating companies include nine firms: in the production equipment sector such as cameras, ▲HDN ▲Zen ▲ATVIS ▲Magenta Company; in the lighting equipment sector, ▲Aladdin ▲Ruth ▲Zilight; in the transmission equipment sector, ▲DS Broadcast; and in the set-top box sector, ▲Crenova Systems. The number of participating companies decreased compared to the previous 40 or so.

KOTRA LA Trade Center supports the export of domestic companies in line with the expansion trend of UHD broadcasting services in the United States. It provides market trend information, operates an intellectual property (IP) desk for U.S. patent disputes, and plays a role in discovering buyers.

KBTA operates the Broadcasting and Telecommunications Equipment Distribution Support System to support the export of domestic companies and promotes over 500 types of equipment. It also organizes pre-online consultations and on-site meetings at the exhibition.

Lee Han-beom, KBTA's full-time vice chairman, said, "As UHD TVs become widespread worldwide, the broadcasting equipment market is growing with the expansion of UHD broadcasting services," adding, "With the world's first terrestrial UHD service and the world's first commercialization of 5G as opportunities, we expect export achievements for excellent domestic broadcasting equipment."
