Father sentenced to 10 years in prison for sexually abusing and assaulting his biological daughter for 15 years since elementary school

Crimes Continued Even After Victim Became an Adult
Court: "Considering Motive and Method, Crime Nature Is Extremely Malicious"

On the 25th, a man in his 50s was sentenced to imprisonment for molesting and raping his biological daughter over several years, starting when she was 10 years old.

[Asia Economy Reporter Kim Jeong-wan] A man in his 50s who sexually harassed and assaulted his biological daughter for about 15 years was sentenced to 10 years in prison by the court.

The Criminal Division 13 of Suwon District Court (Chief Judge Lee Gyu-young) announced on the 25th that it sentenced Mr. A (50), who was indicted on charges of violating the Act on the Punishment of Sexual Crimes and Protection of Victims (forcible molestation and rape within family relations), to 10 years in prison.

On this day, the court also ordered Mr. A to complete 80 hours of a sexual violence treatment program and imposed a 7-year employment restriction at institutions related to children and adolescents as well as those related to persons with disabilities.

Mr. A was charged with forcibly molesting or raping his daughter, Ms. B, continuously for about 15 years since he first molested her at their home in Suwon-si, Gyeonggi-do, when she was 10 years old in 2005.

It was reported that Mr. A continued his crimes even after Ms. B became an adult, including an attempted rape in 2020 when he was intoxicated and tried to assault Ms. B while she was sleeping in her room, but the attempt failed due to her resistance.

The court stated, "The defendant used his biological daughter, whom he had the responsibility to raise and protect so that she could grow up physically and mentally healthy, as an object to satisfy his sexual desires. He abused his economic status as the head of the household and the pretense of family peace to continuously molest and sexually assault the victim for about 15 years, which is highly condemnable. Considering the motive and method of the crime, the nature of the offense is extremely serious."

It added, "Despite the continuation of the defendant’s crimes, the victim was unable to actively reveal the harm due to concerns about disrupting family peace. The mental suffering and sexual shame the victim endured are unimaginable. The physical and mental damage caused to children and adolescents by sexual crimes is extremely severe beyond adults’ imagination. Also, the defendant has not yet been forgiven by the victim. These factors were taken into account as unfavorable sentencing considerations."
