Hyundai Motor, Kia, Mobis, and Wia Join RE100

[Asia Economy Reporter Choi Dae-yeol] Hyundai Motor Group announced on the 25th that four of its major affiliates have been approved to join the RE100 initiative. RE100 stands for "Renewable Energy 100%" and is a campaign promoted by the global nonprofit organization The Climate Group and the global environmental management certification organization Carbon Disclosure Project, aiming for companies to source 100% of their electricity consumption from renewable energy by 2050.

Hyundai Motor, Kia, Hyundai Mobis, and Hyundai Wia expressed their intention to join the global RE100 initiative last July and subsequently applied for membership to the Korea RE100 Committee individually. RE100 is a voluntary participation program, with over 350 companies worldwide currently involved. The four companies approved this time have agreed to establish a cooperative system to respond to RE100 at their jointly operated overseas business sites.

They plan to achieve RE100 by 2050 through methods such as installing solar panels to generate renewable energy directly and purchasing electricity directly from renewable energy power suppliers. Other affiliates within the group will also collaborate with the approved companies to increase the use of renewable energy electricity at each business site. Hyundai Transys, which had initially expressed a separate intention to join last year, will participate in this campaign in connection with Hyundai Motor.
