[Asia Economy Reporter Donghyun Choi] The Ministry of SMEs and Startups announced on the 24th that it is recruiting small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) to participate in the ‘Industry-Academia-Research Platform Collaborative Technology Development Project.’
This project was newly introduced to support technological innovation of SMEs by designating universities and research institutes as key hubs for industry-academia-research collaboration. On the 11th, five universities and four research institutes with experience in supporting SMEs and technological development infrastructure were selected by region.
These universities and research institutes will select 20 SMEs each from this year through 2024 to support technology development. They will also promote technological innovation in manufacturing and new industry sectors through full-cycle commercialization support such as demonstration, mass production, and overseas expansion.
Selected SMEs will receive up to 250 million KRW over a maximum of 2 years and 4 months for prototype production and other activities. Follow-up support such as market research and overseas expansion will be provided to ensure that new technology development leads to successful commercialization.
The Ministry of SMEs and Startups will select a total of 180 SMEs, with each university and research institute autonomously and responsibly selecting 20 SMEs in manufacturing and new industry sectors such as bio and future transportation. Evaluation criteria for selection include the company’s capability to perform tasks, necessity of joint research, and appropriateness of technology development to generate results.
Additionally, universities and research institutes will build a database (DB) of their owned technology information and disclose it externally. SMEs can check this information and apply for projects by selecting universities and research institutes suitable for their industry.
Detailed announcements can be found on the websites of each university and research institute, the SME Technology Development Project Integrated Management System, and the Ministry of SMEs and Startups website.
SMEs wishing to participate in the project can apply online through the SME Technology Development Project Integrated Management System from the 25th until June 7th.
