Final Selection of Gumi Industrial Complex, Total Project Cost 39 Billion KRW Over 3 Years, Securing 20 Billion KRW in National Funding
Establishing a Foundation for RE100 Compliance Through Energy Savings Using Renewable Energy
[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Dongguk Lee] Gyeongsangbuk-do has secured a total project cost of 39 billion KRW (20 billion KRW national funding) after being finally selected for the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy's industrial complex energy self-sufficiency infrastructure construction contest, in collaboration with the Korea Electric Power Corporation consortium.
The 'Industrial Complex Energy Self-Sufficiency Infrastructure Construction Project' was promoted to transform the Gumi Industrial Complex into a low-carbon green industrial complex through renewable energy production within the complex.
Three consortiums applied targeting the Gumi and Yeosu industrial complexes, and the province thoroughly prepared for the contest by holding pre-review consultations with related organizations such as Gumi City and meticulously preparing the project plan before applying.
The selected project prepared by the Korea Electric Power Corporation consortium aims to improve the industrial complex's energy self-reliance rate by expanding distributed energy infrastructure and enhancing energy efficiency.
This plan envisions achieving energy efficiency through eco-friendly energy production using solar power and hydrogen fuel cells, development and demonstration of energy storage systems using used batteries, and replacement of high-efficiency energy facilities, further achieving industrial complex energy self-sufficiency through support of a carbon emission trading platform.
The province expects that, with this contest selection, a virtuous cycle structure of eco-friendly energy production, supply, and consumption within the industrial complex will be established by linking with the 'Smart Energy Platform' project, which contributed to energy consumption efficiency in industrial complexes.
Jang Sang-gil, Director of the Science and Industry Bureau of Gyeongbuk Province, said, "This project will be a core project for industrial complex carbon neutrality, energy saving, and RE100 implementation in accordance with the National Carbon Neutrality Basic Act," adding, "We will actively respond to securing national funding for major ongoing projects such as XR Metaverse Safety Industrial Complex and make the Gumi Industrial Complex a leading digital transformation complex integrated with 5G."
