Gangdong-gu Operates 14th Climate Change Week in Commemoration of Earth Day

[Asia Economy Reporter Park Jong-il] Gangdong-gu (District Mayor Lee Jeong-hoon) announced that it will operate the 14th Climate Change Week for seven days until April 28, in celebration of the 52nd Earth Day on April 22.

The district aims to promote the importance of responding to the climate crisis and to build a consensus on practicing low-carbon living through various events during Climate Change Week.

The "Climate Crisis and Energy Photo Exhibition" will be held at the Open Yard of Gangdong-gu Office. About 20 works will be exhibited, including "Localized Heavy Rain," a winning piece from the 38th and 39th Korea Meteorological Administration Weather and Climate Photo Contests, and "Junk Art," selected through a photo contest among Gangdong-gu residents.

On Earth Day, April 22, at 8 p.m., a "Happy Lights Out" event will be held for just 10 minutes for the Earth. By encouraging participation from public buildings, stores, and large buildings in the area, it is expected to help raise residents' awareness to actively respond to the climate crisis.

Additionally, the "Eolsudae (EarthDay)" practice campaign will be conducted both online and offline. The campaign, held through SNS platforms such as blogs and Facebook, invites participants to share energy-saving tips from daily life or photos/videos of their practices, uploading them to their personal SNS with mandatory hashtags (#Eolsudae, #EnergySaving, #GreenLifePractice, etc.).

Furthermore, during Climate Change Week, an energy transition policy promotion team will carry out a campaign to practice energy saving in daily life.

Lee Jeong-hoon, Mayor of Gangdong-gu, said, "I hope the events during Climate Change Week will serve as an opportunity to think about the importance of the environment, and even after Climate Change Week ends, I ask everyone to join in climate actions for the Earth."
