[Seoul District News] Nowon-gu Offers Gift Certificates by Lottery to Those Achieving Over 7,000 or 50,000 Steps by April 30 · Invest 60 Minutes Daily, Form Healthy Habits with 4km Walking · Gwanak-gu Nakseongdae Park Filled with Various Attractions and Activities
[Asia Economy Reporter Park Jong-il] Nowon-gu (District Mayor Oh Seung-rok) announced that it will hold the spring online walking challenge ‘2022 Kkotdaegwol Nowon’ to help form the habit of walking a little every day.
The modest online walking challenge ‘2022 Kkotdaegwol Nowon’ will run until April 30. The walking event is open to not only Nowon-gu residents but also all Seoul citizens.
Those wishing to participate can install the ‘WalkOn’ app on their smartphones, join the Nowon-gu official community ‘Walking City Nowon,’ and then press the ‘2022 Kkotdaegwol’ challenge participation button.
Up to 7,000 steps per day will be accumulated daily. Once 50,000 steps are reached, an ‘entry ticket’ is activated, and pressing the entry button makes the participant eligible for a draw. 300 achievers will be selected by lottery to receive a mobile cultural gift certificate worth 5,000 KRW.
To encourage participation, an event is also held for those who accumulate fewer than 50,000 steps. If the cumulative steps reach 7,000 or more, participants are automatically entered into a draw, with 100 winners receiving a mobile convenience store gift certificate worth 2,000 KRW. Winners of the 50,000-step draw cannot win this prize again.
Winners will be individually notified via text message along with a WalkOn announcement on May 3.
Starting this year, the district lowered the challenge goal from last year’s average of over 60,000 steps to 50,000 steps to reduce the burden on residents with lower average step counts and encourage participation. Additionally, the district plans to expand ‘Walking Day’ from the 11th of each month to a week-long event, designating the second week of each month as ‘Walking Days’ and promoting a campaign to make walking 4 km or 60 minutes daily a habit.
This year’s ‘2022 Kkotdaegwol’ challenge was prepared to enjoy the spring flower festival decorating various streets of Nowon. The district especially recommends the areas around streams and the azalea hill of Bulamsan Mountain as great places for spring walks.
Danghyeon Stream features a flower waterfall decorated with petunias, a specialized flower bed covering 820㎡, and tulip flower beds along the riverside green areas. Additionally, four upcycling sculptures and one heart-shaped sculpture have been installed, along with photo zones to enhance the enjoyment of walks.
Near Nokcheon Bridge on Jungnang Stream, a flower garden and the Wolreung Bridge flower bed, which sees heavy foot traffic, have been planted with spring flowers such as tulips, pelargoniums, and marguerites, covering a total area of 780㎡. Also, at the specialized flower bed under Byeorumal Bridge on Uicheon Stream (300㎡), visitors can see spring flowers like poppies, marigolds, and petunias.
The azalea hill on Bulamsan Mountain, blooming now, features 100,000 azalea bushes and will host various experiential programs and a ‘Street Arts Festival’ every weekend (April 23, 24, 30, and May 1) with circus acts, puppet shows, and soap bubble performances.
Oh Seung-rok, Mayor of Nowon-gu, said, “Walking is the easiest exercise anyone can do regardless of age or gender, tailored to their own fitness level,” adding, “I hope everyone enjoys the various spring flowers they might have overlooked with family, friends, and loved ones, taking care of both body and mind.”
Gwanak-gu has created a traditional play experience yard and installed an LED starlight walking path and star photo zone to make Nakseongdae Park (77 Nakseongdae-ro) a place full of fun and sights.
The ‘Traditional Play Experience Yard’ operates in the front yard of the Gang Gam-chan Exhibition Hall located within Nakseongdae Park, where anyone can experience and enjoy various traditional games such as ttakji-chigi (paper tile flipping), folk top spinning, jegichagi (shuttlecock kicking), and tuho throwing.
To create a colorful nighttime landscape with lights and provide a more pleasant walking path, an LED-lit ‘Starlight Walking Path’ was established along the trail from Gang Gam-chan Cafe to the Gang Gam-chan Exhibition Hall within Nakseongdae Park.
In particular, an LED star sculpture symbolizing ‘Nakseongdae where stars have fallen’ was installed in the front yard of the Gang Gam-chan Exhibition Hall, transforming it into a popular spot for emotional nighttime photography.
The Traditional Play Experience Yard is open for free enjoyment from Tuesday to Sunday, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. (closed every Monday) in the front yard of the Gang Gam-chan Exhibition Hall. The LED Starlight Walking Path and Star☆Photo Zone light up after sunset and turn off before midnight.
A district official stated, “We aim to provide diverse attractions and activities at Nakseongdae Park, Gwanak-gu’s representative tourist spot, to offer comfort and vitality to residents’ tired daily lives,” adding, “We hope families and couples enjoy these fun experiences together and create happy memories.”
