Assemblyman Park Wansu Confirmed as People Power Party Candidate for Gyeongnam Governor Park Wansu, the People Power Party candidate for Governor of Gyeongnam Province.

[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Lee Seryeong] National Assembly member Park Wansu has been confirmed as the People Power Party candidate for the Gyeongnam Province governor election. Following his tenure as the former mayor of Changwon, a basic local government unit, Park is now challenging to become the head of Gyeongnam Province.


On the morning of the 22nd, Jeong Jinseok, the People Power Party's nomination committee chairman, announced the results of the primary elections for metropolitan and provincial governors in the Seoul metropolitan area and Yeongnam region at a National Assembly press conference.


The candidates are: Kim Eunhye for Gyeonggi Province governor, former Incheon mayor Yoo Jeongbok for Incheon mayor, former Ulsan Nam-gu district chief Kim Dugyeom for Ulsan mayor, and Park Wansu for Gyeongnam Province governor.


According to the nomination committee, although Kim Eunhye received a 5% deduction for being an incumbent lawmaker, she won with 52.67% of the total vote, defeating former lawmaker Yoo Seungmin who received 44.56%.


In the Incheon mayoral primary, former mayor Yoo Jeongbok received 50.32%, former mayor Ahn Sangsoo 26.99%, and former lawmaker Lee Hakjae 22.68%, with Yoo Jeongbok ultimately selected.


Former Nam-gu district chief Kim Dugyeom secured 38.06% support, surpassing former National Assembly deputy speaker Jeong Gap-yoon's 33.32% and lawmaker Seo Beomsu's 27.19%, becoming the final candidate.


In the Gyeongnam governor primary, despite a deduction for being an incumbent lawmaker, Park Wansu led with 55.00% support, ahead of former Minister of Oceans and Fisheries Lee Ju-young's 42.11%.


The primaries were held from the 20th to the 21st, with 50% of the results based on votes from responsible party members and 50% from public opinion polls.


Results for the Daegu, Gangwon, and Jeju regional governor primaries are scheduled to be announced on the following day, the 23rd.
