Responding to the Climate Crisis, Training Local Youth as Environmental Experts

[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Kim Yong-woo] The Busan Metropolitan Office of Education will hold the 2022 Busan Youth Environment Committee inauguration ceremony at 10 a.m. on the 23rd at the Dong-gu Busan Science Experience Center, aiming to nurture youth environmental experts.

Superintendent Kim Seok-jun will attend the inauguration ceremony to present appointment letters to the youth committee members and encourage students' voluntary environmental activities.

The students will elect a chairperson and establish activity plans for each division, including the Environmental Policy Division, Practice Division, and Public Relations Division.

The Busan Office of Education plans to support the committee's operation by running a mentor teacher group and, in connection with the Busan Climate and Environment Network, support students' volunteer activities, campaign activities, and environmental policy proposal activities.

The Busan Youth Environment Committee was formed to raise awareness of environmental issues and activate ecological environment conservation activities, fostering youth environmental leaders who will take the lead in responding to the climate crisis.

This year, the committee is composed of 35 members, more than the 16 middle and high school students last year, and plans to carry out environmental conservation activities linking their schools and local communities.

Superintendent Kim said, "Since its first formation last year, the committee has actively worked to raise youth awareness of the environment and practice carbon neutrality," adding, "The Office of Education will also solidify environmental education so that students can grow into ecological citizens who coexist with the environment and practice carbon neutrality."
