Gwangmyeong Mayor Park Seung-won and Ansan Mayor Yoon Hwa-seop Fail to Receive Democratic Party Nomination

[Asia Economy (Suwon) = Reporter Lee Young-gyu] Park Seung-won, mayor of Gwangmyeong, and Yoon Hwa-seop, mayor of Ansan, were eliminated from the Democratic Party's nomination for the June 1 local elections.


The Democratic Party Gyeonggi Provincial Party Election Candidate Recommendation Management Committee announced the results of the third nomination screening for basic local government heads in the June 1 local elections on the 22nd through its homepage.


According to the announcement, the provincial party nomination committee decided to nominate single candidates for Gwangmyeong Mayor (Im Hye-ja), Anseong Mayor (Kim Bo-ra), and Yeoncheon County Governor (Yoo Sang-ho). Additionally, four candidates will compete in primaries for Suwon Mayor (Kim Sang-hoe, Kim Jun-hyeok, Kim Hee-gyeom, Lee Jae-jun), Ansan Mayor (Song Han-jun, Won Mi-jung, Je Jong-gil, Cheon Young-mi), Goyang Mayor (Kim Young-hwan, Min Kyung-sun, Park Jun, Lee Jae-jun), and Uiwang Mayor (Ki Gil-woon, Kim Sang-don, Kim Jin-sook, Jeon Kyung-sook).


The race for Bucheon Mayor (Jang Deok-cheon, Jo Yong-ik, Han Byung-hwan) and Hwaseong Mayor (Seo Cheol-mo, Jeong Myeong-geun, Jin Seok-beom) narrowed down to three candidates each.


The provincial party nomination committee announced the nomination screening results for 21 out of 31 basic local government election districts in the Gyeonggi area as of that day. This is the first time that incumbent mayors Park and Yoon have been eliminated.


Previously, Eun Soo-mi, mayor of Seongnam, declared she would not run.


The provincial party nomination committee also announced the results of the third nomination screening for metropolitan and basic council members on its homepage on the same day.
