[Asia Economy (Seongnam) = Reporter Lee Young-gyu] Kim Byung-wook, a member of the Democratic Party of Korea (Seongnam Bundang-eul), announced that he will not run for the mayor of Seongnam, Gyeonggi Province.

Until now, there has been speculation within some political circles in the province that if Representative Kim Byung-wook runs for mayor of Seongnam, former Democratic Party presidential candidate Lee Jae-myung might run in Kim's constituency.

However, on the 21st, Kim officially declared on his Facebook post, "I will not run in this Seongnam mayoral election and will focus on legislative activities for the livelihood of the people."

He added, "Many people have shown affectionate interest and advice regarding whether I would run for Seongnam mayor," and "After listening to many people's opinions and reflecting on the role of 'politics,' I took the opportunity to self-reflect on whether I am working solely centered on the people."

Furthermore, he said, "There are many pressing issues to solve, such as real estate tax problems, price increases, and COVID-19 measures," and "Now is the time to take time to contemplate what problems our party has," delivering a candid message to the Democratic Party.

He also promised, "I will listen to the voices of the people with a more humble attitude and deeply consider the role of politics for the people as I move forward."
