This year, Kumho Tire has added skilled drivers Lee Chan-jun and Lee Chang-wook to challenge for victory. Centered around Lee Jung-woo, who has demonstrated experienced driving techniques and skills within the team, Lee Chan-jun, who debuted as the youngest driver in the 6th round of the 2021 CJ Superrace’s top-tier Samsung Fire & Marine Insurance 6000 Class and even secured a win, earning attention as a ‘rising star,’ and Lee Chang-wook, a proven driver who ranked 2nd overall in the 2021 CJ Superrace Kumho GT Class, form a team aiming for victory with youthful vigor.
The Super 6000 Class, in which Kumho Tire competes, is the highest category of the CJ Logistics Superrace Championship. It is a racing competition featuring stock cars dedicated to racing, boasting the fastest speeds and power (6200cc, up to 436 horsepower) among domestic race vehicles. For the first time this season, a ‘Tire Manufacturer Championship Title’ has been established in the Super 6000 Class, with three domestic tire manufacturers competing for the championship.
Kim Jin-pyo, director of the EXRTA Racing Team, said, “This year, we have established a new lineup by recruiting two drivers and have put a lot of effort into testing.” He expressed his ambition toward victory, stating, “Based on Kumho Tire’s advanced racing tire technology, we will not only aim for the championship title but also secure the newly established Tire Manufacturer Championship Title this season to restore the prestige of the technology powerhouse Kumho Tire.”
Meanwhile, Kumho Tire will continue to supply official tires and participate as a naming sponsor in the ‘CJ Superrace Kumho GT Class,’ which features various race cars modified for racing according to set regulations based on mass-produced cars, as it did last year.
Except for the 6000 Class, where teams select tires according to their preferences, all race cars competing in the top-tier GT1 and GT2 classes are equipped with Kumho Tire’s racing tires. Additionally, Kumho Tire has participated as the official tire supplier for ‘TCR Europe’ since 2022, strengthening its position in motorsports technology both domestically and internationally.
