[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters, Reporter Shin Dong-ho] Seo-gu, Gwangju Metropolitan City announced on the 21st that it has selected the recipients of the Seo-gu Citizen Award for contributions to the development of the district.
The awardees are ▲ Lee Kyung-hwi (69, female) and Lee Jeong-hee (68, female) in the Social and Volunteer Service category ▲ Jeong Hee-man (61, male) in the Beautiful City Development category ▲ Jeon Ja-kwang (59, male) in the Education, Culture, and Sports category ▲ Park Chan-gap (66, male) in the Local Economy category, totaling five recipients.
Lee Kyung-hwi and Lee Jeong-hee, selected in the Social and Volunteer Service category, have participated in various volunteer activities such as annual kimchi sharing and protecting vulnerable groups, passionately working for the underprivileged residents in the area.
In particular, they participated as part of the Integrated Volunteer Support Group at the site of the apartment collapse accident during the Hyundai Development Company new construction project earlier this year, empathizing with the pain of the community and neighbors as their own, dedicating themselves to volunteer work every day for over 40 days to help the affected residents recover their daily lives as soon as possible, setting an exemplary example.
Jeong Hee-man, in the Beautiful City Development category, has long participated in resident autonomy activities and has taken the lead in realizing resident self-governance.
He was recognized for his contributions to improving the village’s aesthetics and forming a local community through various activities such as the “Ssangchon Jugong Open Flower Path Fence Construction Project,” “Ssangssang Ilchon Fragrant Sinchon Road Development,” and “Children’s Park Environmental Improvement.”
Jeon Ja-kwang, in the Education, Culture, and Sports category, was highly evaluated for expanding the activities of disabled artists through his work with the Gwangju Disabled Artists Support Association, including cultural media projects for the disabled such as the “Awaken the Picasso Within Me” education program, organizing exhibitions, and discovering disabled artists.
Park Chan-gap, in the Local Economy category, has greatly contributed to revitalizing the local economy by enhancing the district’s energy self-sufficiency and fostering industry through the development and expansion of renewable energy.
He was honored for his significant contributions to community development, including supporting the Seo-gu Scholarship Foundation for nurturing outstanding talents and contributing to youth job creation.
This year’s Seo-gu Citizen Award ceremony will be held at 10 a.m. on the 29th in the Deulbul Hall (Main Conference Room) on the 2nd floor of Seo-gu Office during the “28th Seo-gu Citizens’ Day Commemoration Ceremony.”
