[Asia Economy Reporter Jang Hyowon] Hurim Robot announced on the 21st that it showcased its self-developed AI autonomous driving robot ‘TETRA-DSV’ at the largest domestic information and communication technology (ICT) exhibition ‘World IT Show 2022 (WIS 2022)’ held for three days from the 20th to the 22nd at COEX, Seoul. In particular, TETRA-DSV received high praise for its practicality and product innovation on-site, earning the Minister’s Award from the Ministry of Science and ICT.
The TETRA-DSV, which won the Minister’s Award this time, is Hurim Robot’s fifth logistics-specialized robot model developed in-house. Hurim Robot focused on practical operational feasibility in the field when designing it. Cutting-edge technologies such as LiDAR sensors, ultrasonic sensors, 3D cameras, and artificial intelligence (AI) are integrated and applied, enabling precise driving in complex environments like logistics warehouses and product manufacturing plants.
Additionally, based on advanced AI technology, it can perform situational judgments such as obstacle avoidance, and even if it slips or deviates from its path due to external impact, it can autonomously recognize its surroundings, identify its location, and continue to carry out its mission.
TETRA-DSV was developed based on the highly versatile robot operating system ‘ROS’, maximizing compatibility and interoperability between robots, which allows immediate reflection of various environments and customer demands. With a maximum payload of 120kg and up to 8 hours of operation on a single charge, the company expects it to be highly regarded in various industrial sites.
A Hurim Robot official said, “Since TETRA-DSV has a platform nature, it has limitless potential for use in various environments beyond logistics warehouses and production sites,” adding, “We are also developing a larger model with increased size and payload capacity to further enhance its usability.”
He continued, “We are pleased that the Minister’s Award recognizes the long-term efforts Hurim Robot has made in technology development from TETRA-DS1 developed in 2005 to the current TETRA-DSV,” and added, “We will continue to do our best to develop robots that can be usefully applied in various industries.”
WIS 2022, hosted by the Ministry of Science and ICT and jointly organized by six institutions including the Korea International Trade Association, marked its 14th edition this year. It was supported by the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy and the National IT Industry Promotion Agency, and was held under the theme ‘One-stop Platform for Digital Transformation.’ Hurim Robot demonstrated a firefighting robot system using TETRA-DSV at its own booth, showcasing the diverse potential applications of TETRA-DSV.
