[Asia Economy Reporter Park Jong-il] Songpa-gu (Mayor Park Seong-su) announced on the 21st that it will create a detour route on Yangsan-ro to supplement the disconnected bicycle paths around Jangji Neighborhood Park on the Songpa Dullegil Trail.

Until now, the walking path in Jangji Neighborhood Park, part of the Songpa Dullegil bicycle course, had a narrow sidewalk and steep slopes, making it difficult to establish a bicycle path, so detours were necessary.

However, some parts of the detour route were also disconnected, and as the number of visitors using bicycles to access the Songpa Dullegil Trail has recently increased, the need to create a bicycle path connecting the disconnected sections has continuously emerged.

The district is accelerating the "Songpa Dullegil Season 2," a key project of the 7th local government administration, which connects the Songpa Dullegil Trail with local attractions. As part of Season 2, it is also promoting the expansion of bicycle convenience facilities and the creation of bicycle detour routes linked to the Songpa Dullegil Trail and related courses.

Previously, in December last year, the district created a 350m detour route (Section 1) on Songi-ro (from Munjeong Middle School Intersection to Songpa Pine Town Complex 1). In addition, it installed guide signs and pictogram floor markings indicating the direction of the Songpa Dullegil Trail to enhance residents' convenience.

This time, an additional 350m detour route (Section 2) will be created around Yangsan-ro (from Subway Line 5 Geoyeo Station to Songpa-gu Health Center). To this end, the district secured 200 million KRW in project funds necessary for the bicycle detour route through close consultation with the Seoul Metropolitan Government.

Yangsan-ro is a major road connecting Geoyeo Station and Wirye District. Once a bicycle-accessible detour is established, access to the Songpa Dullegil Trail will be easier by bypassing Jangji Neighborhood Park along Geoyeo-dong Intersection, Geoyeo Station, and Wiryesero. In particular, it will connect with the bicycle paths in Wirye District, making it more convenient to access the Jangji Stream section of the Songpa Dullegil Trail and the Tancheon section. This will enhance the continuity of bicycle travel and connect to Geoyeo Station, facilitating access between the subway and bicycles, thereby significantly improving residents' mobility convenience.

The district plans to start full-scale construction in June. It will repave and maintain the deteriorated sidewalks and create a non-separated shared road for bicycles and pedestrians. To prevent safety accidents, highly visible "pictogram sign block" floor guide signs will also be installed.

Park Seong-su, Mayor of Songpa-gu, said, "We will create an environment where anyone can use the Songpa Dullegil Trail more safely and conveniently," adding, "We will continue to focus on the Songpa Dullegil Season 2 project to ensure that the well-maintained Songpa Dullegil Trail becomes a daily sanctuary for residents and tourists."

Dorimcheon in Dongjak-gu is equipped with various convenience facilities such as bicycle paths, walking trails, and exercise facilities, making it a popular outing spot for residents.

Accordingly, Dongjak-gu (Mayor Lee Chang-woo) announced that it has completed the Dorimcheon riverside walking trail after finishing the nighttime landscape lighting improvement project for Dorimcheon.

At the end of September 2020, the district transformed the dark and aging Dorimcheon by installing ▲ LED security lights ▲ nighttime rest areas and photo zones ▲ colored floodlights on bridge piers ▲ rotating gobo lights and laser lights at the waterside plaza along a 1.3km section from under Sindaebang Station to near the Sindaebang-gu Public Daycare Center, bringing vitality to the bleak underpasses with various attractions.

Last year, to establish Dorimcheon as a nighttime scenic spot, the district decided to add more landscape lighting that had received high resident satisfaction. Two pillar landscape lights were additionally installed at the waterside plaza, and 13 gobo lights featuring images symbolizing Dongjak-gu were installed on the walking trail close to the waterside.

Furthermore, shadow color lighting and reed lighting were installed at the Boramae entrance and exit, and lighting was also installed on bridge piers and retaining walls along the walking trail, adding a lively and vibrant atmosphere.

In addition, the district installed restrooms and drinking fountains, maintained wooden decks, sports facilities, and flower beds, and planted trees on the slopes of the Dorimcheon riverside walking trail. This simultaneously improved resident convenience and street scenery, creating a space where people want to walk more in the summer.

The Dorimcheon nighttime landscape lighting operates flexibly by season from sunset until 11 p.m., and turns off during early morning hours when pedestrian traffic is low to save energy.

In the future, to improve convenience for residents using Dorimcheon in the summer, lighting that ensures safety will be installed at entrances and exits by December, and cooling fog will be installed along the Dorimcheon embankment walking path.

Additionally, the district is conducting inspections of rivers, flood control facilities, and flood-prone areas and facilities including Dorimcheon, and is doing its best to protect residents' safety from summer wind and flood disasters through prompt repairs and reinforcements of any defects.

Kim Sang-hoon, Director of the Water Management Division, said, "We will continue to promote Dorimcheon improvement projects to create a safe resting place and a pleasant waterside cultural space where residents can feel at ease."
