[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Dongguk Lee] On the 20th, Gyeongbuk Province signed a business agreement at the provincial office to promote the ‘Project Gyerim,’ a project to create an immersive space for Silla heritage.
Attendees at the signing ceremony included Kang Seong-jo, Deputy Governor, Kim Hojin, Acting Mayor of Gyeongju, Kim Wook, CEO of Dexter Studio, Kim Jikyo, CEO of the Cultural Heritage Technology Institute, and Ryu Heerim, Secretary General of the Cultural Expo Foundation.
This agreement was prepared to create new tourism opportunities by securing digital tourism resources based on Silla culture in the post-COVID-19 era.
This was made possible by the alignment of Gyeongju City and Expo Park’s efforts to establish a tourism identity and the determination of Dexter Studio and the Cultural Heritage Technology Institute to promote third-generation media art projects.
Once the immersive Silla heritage space is established, it will be the first media art space based on local historical and cultural resources to operate in Gyeongju Expo Park.
The Silla heritage immersive space ‘Gyerim’ is planned to be constructed using idle land within Gyeongju Expo Park.
Unlike existing media art exhibition halls that focus on famous masterpieces or abstract spaces, this project plans to secure differentiated competitiveness by leveraging exhibitions based on unique content rooted in Silla’s history and cultural resources.
To promote this project, Gyeongbuk Province, Gyeongju City, and the Cultural Expo will provide the project site and administrative support, while Dexter Studio and the Cultural Heritage Technology Institute will be responsible for content creation, hardware construction, and operation.
Dexter Studio, which will produce media art exhibition content utilizing Silla cultural resources?the core of the Gyerim project?is Asia’s largest VFX studio and a company specializing in immersive content.
The Cultural Heritage Technology Institute is a leading digital heritage and cultural content company in South Korea, expected to create original historical and cultural content that no other immersive content exhibition hall has achieved.
Kang Seong-jo, Deputy Governor of Gyeongbuk Province, said, “This is a new attempt to harmonize the appeal of tourist sites with historical and cultural resources,” adding, “Starting with the Gyerim project, we will digitalize Gyeongbuk’s cultural resources to create new tourism trends.”
