People Power Party Gyeongnam Provincial Party Committee Begins Primaries in Yangsan, Sacheon, Namhae, Geochang, and Hapcheon

Strengthening Document and Interview Screening, Expanding Opportunities for Political Newcomers, Women, and Youth

[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Lee Seryeong] The People Power Party Gyeongnam Provincial Party Committee's Nomination Management Committee will hold primaries for candidates in the Yangsan, Sacheon, Namhae, Geochang, and Hapcheon regions.

The Provincial Party Committee's Nomination Management Committee decided in meetings held on the 18th and 19th to conduct document screening and interviews for preliminary candidates for the June nationwide simultaneous local elections, including Yangsan Mayor, Sacheon Mayor, and Namhae County Governor.

Na Dong-yeon, former mayor of Yangsan, Han Ok-mun, former chairman of Yangsan City Council.

The candidates for the Yangsan mayoral primary are former Yangsan Mayor Na Dong-yeon and former Yangsan City Council Chairman Han Ok-moon.

Former Yangsan City Vice Mayor Kang Ho-dong, former Chairman of the Gyeongnam Provincial Council Park Dong-sik, former Gyeongnam Provincial Assembly member Park Jeong-yeol, former research professor at Gyeongsang National University Lee Won-seop, former Chunchoogwan Director of the Presidential Secretariat at the Blue House Choi Sang-hwa.

In the Sacheon mayoral electoral district, former Yangsan Deputy Mayor Kang Ho-dong, former Gyeongnam Provincial Council Chairman Park Dong-sik, former Gyeongnam Provincial Assembly member Park Jeong-yeol, former Gyeongsang National University research professor Lee Won-seop, and former Blue House Presidential Secretariat Chun Chu-gwan Chief Choi Sang-hwa will participate in the primary.

Ko Won-ho, former head of the Namhae County branch of the National Agricultural Cooperative Federation; Moon Jun-hong, current policy advisory committee member of the Yeouido Institute; Park Young-il, former governor of Namhae County; Lee Cheol-ho, current director of Namhae Dental Clinic.

For Namhae County Governor, former Nonghyup Central Association Namhae Branch Manager Go Won-ho, current Yeouido Institute Policy Advisory Committee member Moon Jun-hong, former Namhae County Governor Park Young-il, and current Namhae Dental Clinic Director Lee Cheol-ho will compete in the primary.

Current County Governor Gu In-mo, Former Secretary General to Governor Choi Ki-bong of Gyeongnam Province.

The Geochang County Governor election is expected to be a head-to-head contest between current County Governor Gu In-mo and former Gyeongnam Governor Secretary Office Chief Choi Ki-bong.

Kim Sung-tae, Chairman of the Hapcheon-gun International Exchange Council; Kim Yoon-chul, former provincial council member; Park Jung-moo, county council member.

In the Hapcheon County Governor election, which became vacant after former County Governor Moon Jun-hee lost his position due to a violation of the Political Funds Act, Kim Seong-tae, Chairman of the Hapcheon County International Exchange Council, former Provincial Assembly member Kim Yoon-cheol, and County Council member Park Jung-mu will compete for the candidacy.

The Nomination Management Committee stated, “We will strengthen candidate qualification screening and do our best to expand opportunities for political newcomers, women, and youth to enter public office candidacy.”
