[Suncheon=Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Lee Hyung-kwon] Jang Man-chae, a preliminary candidate for Suncheon mayor, stated on the 19th, marking the 62nd anniversary of the April 19 Revolution, "I will do my best to build a just society by inheriting the spirit of our senior democratic fighters who faced gunfire with their bare bodies to protect democracy."
Candidate Jang said, "When the Rhee Syngman regime, which was consistently dictatorial, even committed the March 15 fraudulent election, student protests broke out in Masan, Gyeongnam, and Seoul, and citizens joined in opposition to the violent suppression," emphasizing, "It is the duty of our descendants to ensure that such a tragedy never happens again on this land."
Candidate Jang explained, "The sacred spirit of the Yeo-Sun Incident continued through the April 19 and May 18 movements," adding, "Our Suncheon is historically a courageous region that loves the country and its people."
Candidate Jang emphasized, "A special law that can eternally preserve the sacred spirit of the Yeo-Sun Incident was hastily enacted by our district's National Assembly member So Byung-chul," and added, "Now we must ensure that such tragic history does not repeat."
