[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Kim Chunsu] A fishing vessel moored at Songgong Port in Aphae-eup, Sinan-gun, Jeollanam-do, experienced flooding, prompting the Coast Guard to launch an emergency drainage operation.

According to the Mokpo Coast Guard on the 19th, at 1:37 PM on the 18th, a report was received that water was rising in the battery compartment of the 1.03-ton fishing vessel A, moored at Songgong Port.

Upon receiving the report, the Coast Guard dispatched a rescue team from the local police station to the scene, where they found vessel A tilted about 10 degrees at the stern and promptly began reinforcing the mooring lines to prevent sinking.

They then confirmed that flooding was progressing in two fish holds of vessel A and, together with local fishermen, carried out drainage operations using submersible pumps.

No marine pollution occurred within the port due to the flooding incident, and vessel A was safely lifted onto land at 2:48 PM that day using a crane arranged by the vessel owner.

A Mokpo Coast Guard official stated, “We will further strengthen patrols of ports, harbors, and coastal areas to prevent human and material damage as well as marine pollution accidents caused by vessel flooding.”
