Yujinseop Jeongeup Mayor and Jang Youngsu Jangsu County Governor 'Cut Off'... Provincial Council Chairperson and Vice Chairperson Also Excluded from Nomination
[Jeonju=Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Kim Han-ho] The Jeonbuk Provincial Party of the Democratic Party of Korea announced the results of the candidate recommendation screening for the basic local government heads in the June 1 local elections, with Yoo Jin-seop, mayor of Jeongeup, and Jang Young-su, county head of Jangsu, being cut off (excluded from nomination).
Additionally, Song Ji-yong, chairman of the Provincial Council (candidate for Wanju County head), and Choi Young-il, vice chairman (candidate for Sunchang County head), who had been considered strong candidates, also faced the bitter outcome of exclusion from nomination.
The Democratic Party Jeonbuk Provincial Party's Public Office Election Candidate Recommendation Management Committee announced the results of the candidate recommendation screening for basic local government heads late in the evening on the 18th.
As a result of the screening, the following candidates were selected for the primaries: for Jeonju mayor, Woo Beom-gi, Yoo Chang-hee, and Jo Ji-hoon; for Gunsan mayor, Kang Im-jun, Moon Taek-gyu, and Seo Dong-seok; for Iksan mayor, Jeong Heon-yul, Jo Yong-sik, and Choi Jeong-ho; for Jeongeup mayor, Lee Hak-su, Choi Do-sik, and Choi Min-cheol; for Namwon mayor, Lee Sang-hyun and Choi Kyung-sik; and for Gimje mayor, Gu Hyeong-bo, Park Jun-bae, Jeong Seong-ju, and Jeong Ho-young.
Also, for Wanju county head, Guk Young-seok, Do Se-hun, Yoo Hee-tae, and Lee Don-seung; for Jangsu county head, Yang Seong-bin and Choi Hoon-sik; for Sunchang county head, Kwon Dae-young, Jang Jong-il, and Choi Ki-hwan; and for Buan county head, Kwon Ik-hyun, Kim Sang-gon, Kim Seong-su, and Kim Jong-gyu were confirmed as primary participants.
Furthermore, Jeon Chun-seong was decided as the sole candidate for Jin'an county head, Hwang Ui-tak for Muju county head, and Shim Deok-seop for Gochang county head.
In this process, incumbent heads Yoo Jin-seop of Jeongeup and Jang Young-su of Jangsu were excluded from nomination.
Moreover, Song Ji-yong, chairman, and Choi Young-il, vice chairman, who led in multiple opinion polls, as well as Yoon Seung-ho, vice chairman of the provincial party (candidate for Namwon mayor), also failed to overcome the cut-off barrier.
Although the Democratic Party provincial party has finalized candidates for the local election primaries for heads of local governments, some criticism has been raised that thorough verification was not conducted, and cut-off candidates are also showing signs of requesting re-examination, indicating that turmoil is expected to continue for some time.
