[Asia Economy Reporter Lee Ji-eun] The Board of Audit and Inspection audited the financial status of the National Health Insurance last year and reported it to the Presidential Transition Committee last month.
According to the Board of Audit and Inspection on the 19th, the board conducted an audit on the financial management of the National Health Insurance targeting the Ministry of Health and Welfare and others from November to December last year, and reported this during the transition committee's work briefing last month.
This audit was conducted as part of a special audit rather than a regular audit. It is believed that expenditure items that were converted from non-covered to covered services due to the health insurance coverage enhancement measures introduced during the Moon Jae-in administration became the main audit targets.
President Moon pledged during his candidacy to increase the health insurance coverage rate to 70% within his term, and on August 9, 2017, he personally announced the "Health Insurance Coverage Enhancement Measures," known as "Moon Jae-in Care."
Accordingly, measures such as the abolition of selective treatment fees, expansion of integrated nursing and caregiving services, and application of health insurance coverage to ultrasound and MRI (Magnetic Resonance Imaging) examinations were implemented.
