China says US-ASEAN Summit is "Not a Chessboard for Great Powers" Wang Wenbin, Spokesperson of the Chinese Ministry of Foreign Affairs

[Asia Economy Reporter Buaeri] China has reacted against the United States, which is holding a summit with ASEAN (Association of Southeast Asian Nations) member countries, saying, "The Asia-Pacific is not a Go board for great powers."

Wang Wenbin, spokesperson for the Chinese Ministry of Foreign Affairs, stated at a regular briefing on the 18th, "Maintaining peace, stability, and development in the Asia-Pacific region is something all parties cherish."

Spokesperson Wang added, "We hope the United States will realize its promise to support ASEAN's central role through concrete actions, abandon Cold War mentality and cliquishness, and do more to help peace and stability in the region."

The United States is scheduled to hold a special summit with ASEAN member countries in Washington DC for two days starting from the 12th of next month.

At this summit, U.S. President Joe Biden is expected to reaffirm close alliances with ASEAN member countries, strengthen checks on China, and discuss responses to Russia's invasion of Ukraine.
