Gwangju City Begins Major Construction Around Chosun University Engineering Campus for Urban Railway Line 2

[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Park Jin-hyung] The Urban Railway Construction Headquarters of Gwangju Metropolitan City will commence construction of the Urban Railway Line 2 from Namgwangju Overpass to Chosun University Intersection starting on the 20th.

This construction will be carried out over a section of approximately 350 meters from Namgwangju Overpass toward Chosun University Intersection, occupying 3 out of the total 8 to 9 lanes to conduct obstacle identification and temporary facility installation works.

The remaining 5 to 6 lanes will be appropriately distributed considering traffic volume.

Accordingly, the lanes from Chosun University Intersection toward Namgwangju Overpass will be reduced from 4 lanes to 2 lanes, then expanded back to 3 lanes near the intersection by the College of Engineering at Chosun University, and only the first lane will be available for travel on Namgwangju Overpass.

Also, the lanes from Namgwangju Overpass toward Chosun University Intersection will be reduced from 4 lanes to 2 lanes, then expanded back to 4 lanes near the front of the College of Engineering at Chosun University.

Originally, the U-turn section at Chosun University Intersection will be changed to allow U-turns in front of the College of Engineering at Chosun University, so drivers need to exercise caution.

Prior to this, the Urban Railway Construction Headquarters held a working-level council with related organizations such as Gwangju City Traffic Policy Research Office, Dongbu Police Station, and the Korea Transportation Safety Authority to review lane occupancy, traffic management plans, safety facilities, and other necessary matters to minimize inconvenience to nearby citizens caused by the construction.

Furthermore, before the start of construction, they plan to install as many guide banners, signs, traffic safety facilities, lane markings, and guidance signs as possible, and deploy traffic controllers to minimize inconvenience to drivers.

Jung Dae-kyung, head of the Urban Railway Construction Headquarters, said, “Traffic may be somewhat congested during the traffic transition period, so please use public transportation during commuting hours and use surrounding detour roads when driving. We will do our best to minimize traffic-related inconveniences.”
