[Asia Economy Reporter Moon Chaeseok] It has been confirmed that Lee Eunhae and Jo Hyunsoo, suspects in the 'valley murder' case, showed uncooperative attitudes by evading statements during the prosecution investigation after their arrest.
The Criminal Division 2 of Incheon District Prosecutors' Office (Chief Prosecutor Kim Changsoo) summoned Lee and Jo from Incheon Detention Center from 10 a.m. today to investigate charges including murder and attempted murder. The prosecution also plans to verify whether there were any accomplices who helped them escape after they disappeared ahead of the second prosecution investigation on December 14 last year, as well as their escape routes, until their arrest yesterday after four months on the run.
Lee and Jo were arrested by the police around 12:25 p.m. yesterday at an officetel in Deogyang-gu, Goyang-si, Gyeonggi Province, and were transferred to the Incheon District Prosecutors' Office, where they were questioned until late at night. It is reported that they evaded answering questions properly during the prosecution investigation. In particular, Lee showed an uncooperative attitude by stating that she could not make statements without her lawyer present, and Jo also reportedly did not provide proper answers.
The prosecution plans to request arrest warrants for Lee and Jo at the court on the morning of the 18th, based on the arrest warrants. Suspects detained under emergency arrest or arrest warrants must have arrest warrants requested from the court or be released within 48 hours. The prosecution is also analyzing the mobile phones seized from the officetel where Lee and Jo were hiding through digital forensics. A prosecution official said, "We have been continuously investigating the suspects yesterday and today," adding, "We will request the arrest warrants depending on the progress of the investigation."
