[Asia Economy Reporter Naju-seok] The Justice Party expressed "regret" regarding Prosecutor General Kim Oh-soo's announcement of his resignation. They stated that instead of apologizing for the prosecution's incompetence and irresponsibility, he appeared to be portraying it as a sacrifice for the organization.
On the 17th, Lee Dong-young, the Justice Party's chief spokesperson, criticized in a written briefing, "Recently, Prosecutor General Kim visited the National Assembly and the Blue House opposing the adjustment of investigative authority, and ultimately resigned. While this may appear as a sacrifice to protect the prosecution as a unified organization, it is difficult to gain the sympathy or trust of the citizens."
He added, "If Prosecutor General Kim took responsibility as the head of the prosecution, the first voice should have been one of reflection on the prosecution's incompetence and irresponsibility, which damaged citizens' right to choose through past political prosecution practices that protected the prosecution's vested interests rather than citizens' basic rights, delayed investigations into judicial risks of the two major party candidates during the last presidential election, and lenient investigations," and said, "Resignation without an apology is regrettable."
The spokesperson stated, "Prosecution reform is the Justice Party's firm principle and consistent direction," and added, "The Justice Party will make every effort, including the prompt promotion of the 'National Assembly Prosecution Reform Discussion Organization,' to prevent prosecution reform from deviating from its proper course due to a strong versus strong factional confrontation."
It is known that on the morning of the 18th, the Justice Party leadership plans to visit National Assembly Speaker Park Byeong-seok to propose reasonable and effective prosecution reform measures.
