[Asia Economy Reporter Naju-seok] Park Jumin, a member of the Democratic Party of Korea who announced his intention to run for Seoul mayor in the June local elections, stated, "I am running for Seoul mayor to make this election a platform for generational and era change."
Park attended the press conference titled "Generational Change, Era Transition! Let's Create Young Local Autonomy" held on the steps in front of the National Assembly main building and said, "I am Park Jumin, a member of the National Assembly preparing to be a candidate for Seoul mayor," before sharing his thoughts on generational change.
He said, "Generational change is not a one-dimensional demand for more opportunities for young people, as some misunderstand. If a particular generation dominates politics and administration, their interests and concerns will be overrepresented," adding, "This is undesirable not only for marginalized generations but also for society as a whole." He emphasized, "Especially, generations that have experienced the same era tend to share similar perspectives and awareness of social issues."
He continued, "Generational change means expanding diversity," and said, "Only then can we become a more inclusive and dynamic country." Park stated, "Filling local councils, the National Assembly, and places from Jeju to Seoul with more stories and interests from our generation is exactly what generational and era change means."
Park declared, "The Seo Taiji generation, Cyworld generation, and BTS generation must now step forward," and added, "Our Democratic Party must lead this effort most boldly and innovatively."
The press conference was centered around young candidates who announced their intention to run in the June local elections. In their statement, they said, "More young people must enter local councils and local governments to demonstrate bold innovation and change."
