Seocho-gu Provides 500,000 Won Disaster Relief Fund to Unemployed Youth

[Asia Economy Reporter Park Jong-il] Seocho-gu is recruiting applicants for the ‘Disaster Relief Fund Employment Incentive for Unemployed Youth’ until June to support the livelihood stability and job-seeking activities of unemployed youth facing difficulties in job hunting due to the prolonged COVID-19 pandemic.

The support targets unemployed youth born between 1987 and 2003 who have resided in Seocho-gu according to their resident registration before the announcement date, are within two years of graduation from their highest level of education, and are not enrolled in employment insurance. Additionally, short-term contract workers who are enrolled in employment insurance but work 26 hours or less per week or for 3 months or less are eligible to apply. However, those currently enrolled or on leave from university (including graduate school), recipients (or eligible recipients) of unemployment benefits, those serving in the military, and those registered as business owners are excluded from support.

Applicants must submit four mandatory documents: ▲Resident Registration Abstract ▲Employment Insurance Qualification History ▲Certificate of Graduation for the highest level of education ▲Military Service Certificate (for males). Short-term contract workers enrolled in employment insurance working 26 hours or less per week or for 3 months or less must additionally submit a copy of the relevant employment contract as proof.

Applications can be submitted online through the Seoul Youth Portal. Detailed information on eligibility requirements and required documents can be found in the Seocho-gu recruitment announcement posted on the Seoul Youth Portal.

Going forward, the district will review eligibility and other exclusion criteria in the order of application receipt, select recipients of the disaster relief fund, and sequentially provide 500,000 KRW worth of Seocho Love Gift Certificates via mobile starting early May. The gift certificates are valid until the end of this year and can only be used at Seoul Pay affiliated stores within Seocho-gu.

Seo Chung-min, Director of the Child and Youth Division, said, “In a situation where hiring opportunities have decreased due to COVID-19, we hope this disaster relief fund will help unemployed youth in their job-seeking efforts and bring them one step closer to their dreams. We will continue to strive to support youth employment.”
