Seocho District Council Pushes to Establish Basis for 'Stalking Crime Prevention and Victim Support'

[Asia Economy Reporter Park Jong-il] The Seocho District Council (Chairman Kim Ik-tae) is currently advancing procedures to establish institutional grounds for preventing stalking crimes and supporting victims among residents, as stalking-related damages have recently increased and emerged as a social issue.

First, to enable local governments to respond to crime victims, Councilor Lee Hyun-sook has taken the lead in preparing the enactment of the "Ordinance on the Prevention of Stalking Crimes and Support for Victims."

The ordinance includes provisions to formulate policies and allocate budgets to reduce stalking crime damages, establish cooperative systems with related organizations, and conduct education and publicity for crime prevention. This aims to raise awareness of stalking crimes and establish a prompt and efficient support network.

Before the final review of the ordinance, the council held consultations on the 13th with the Women and Youth Division of the Bangbae Police Station to build a cooperative system for the ordinance's implementation. After discussing the ordinance's contents and the roles of the institutions, both organizations pledged to closely cooperate to prepare proactive measures for the practical protection of victims and to minimize damages in the future.

Chairman Kim Ik-tae stated, "Since stalking often leads to serious crimes, we will strive not only to codify the prevention of stalking crimes and victim support but also to establish practical and sustainable support measures."

Meanwhile, the "Ordinance on the Prevention of Stalking Crimes and Support for Victims" is scheduled for final review and resolution at the 3rd plenary session of the 315th extraordinary meeting on the 19th.
