[Yeonggwang=Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Lee Jeonseong] A factory capable of jointly producing e-mobility parts will be established within the Daema Industrial Complex in Yeonggwang-gun, Jeollanam-do.
The county announced on the 15th that since last year, it has been promoting a project worth a total of 19.7 billion KRW (9.7 billion KRW national funds, 10 billion KRW local funds) to enable companies within the Daema Industrial Complex to produce e-mobility parts on their own.
Through this, a shared parts pilot production support factory that e-mobility companies within the Daema Industrial Complex can use together is being established.
Pilot production refers to a method of producing parts on a trial basis before full-scale production by equipping production facilities to reduce trial and error.
Since the e-mobility industry is a new industrial sector, enormous costs and facility investments are required to enter the new industry, but it is not easy for small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) to bear these costs.
The county plans to overcome these difficulties faced by local e-mobility SMEs and enable them to produce parts independently without relying on supply from China by establishing the most essential equipment such as injection molding, forming, and painting within the Daema Industrial Complex parts shared production factory by 2023.
To use these facilities efficiently, e-mobility SMEs will gather to establish the Korea e-Mobility Cooperative.
The cooperative has been promoted since last year by bringing together 13 e-mobility SMEs along with Yeonggwang-gun, Jeollanam-do, the Korea Federation of SMEs, and related organizations, and finally launched through the inaugural general meeting on this day.
Once the factory is established and internal equipment is completed, e-mobility companies will be able to produce e-mobility vehicles with parts they manufacture themselves instead of relying on Chinese parts as before.
This will resolve risks such as instability in part performance and quality degradation due to imports, reduce costs associated with overseas parts procurement, and is expected to secure price competitiveness to compete with Chinese products in overseas exports.
The county expects that about 200 new jobs will be created once the pilot production support factory is established and demand is built accordingly.
According to the demand survey, e-mobility-related companies outside the region are hoping to move into the Daema Industrial Complex after the support factory is established.
With the localization of parts and the move-in of related companies to the Daema Industrial Complex to use the pilot production support factory, it is expected to greatly contribute to the revitalization of Yeonggwang-gun’s regional economy.
A county official said, “Although it takes considerable time for a new industry to show results, we will steadily promote national projects so that the county’s strategic industry can achieve tangible outcomes and local companies can truly feel the benefits.”
