The National Public Officials Labor Union Gyeongnam Regional Headquarters submitted a petition to the Election Commission urging the direct execution of election agency tasks.
[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Lee Seryeong] The National Public Officials Labor Union Gyeongnam Regional Headquarters has demanded that the election management committee directly carry out the proxy election tasks for the simultaneous local elections in June.
The public officials labor unions in Gyeongnam Province submitted a petition to the provincial election commission on the afternoon of the 14th, containing a request that the city and county election management committees directly perform tasks such as ▲receiving and verifying election posters ▲posting and removing posters ▲receiving, verifying, and sending election bulletins.
They claimed that these tasks have conventionally been passed down from the city and county election commissions to the eup, myeon, and dong committees.
The labor union collected signatures demanding direct execution of proxy election tasks from the 18 eup, myeon, and dong committees in 18 cities and counties across the province from the 4th to the 14th.
Out of 304 eup, myeon, and dong committee chairpersons, 207 signed; out of 304 secretaries, 300 signed; and out of 369 clerks, 351 participated in the signature campaign.
The union stated that if the demand is not accepted, they plan to hold a resolution rally to block the proxy election tasks on the 22nd.
