[Asia Economy Reporter Naju-seok] Kim Eun-hye, a member of the People Power Party, and former lawmaker Yoo Seung-min drew attention on the 14th by leaving heartfelt closing appeals.

During the People Power Party Gyeonggi Province governor primary debate held through MBC's 100-minute debate on the same day, the two candidates conducted a discussion focusing on policy issues while showing respect toward each other. However, in their closing remarks, they expressed sincere statements.

Kim said, "I deeply engrave Gyeonggi Province not as a personal success but as a goal itself," adding, "I will become a powerful governor of Gyeonggi Province who can always communicate and cooperate with the central government and the Seoul mayor, rather than a governor who constantly conflicts with the Yoon Seok-yeol administration."

Her mention of personal success was aimed at questioning the purity of former lawmaker Yoo's intention to run for Gyeonggi Province governor, as he was defeated in the recent presidential election but is still considered a presidential candidate for the next election. Furthermore, by referring to "conflicts with the Yoon Seok-yeol administration," she implied that Yoo, who had fierce conflicts with Yoon Seok-yeol during the People Power Party presidential primary (Yoon is the current president-elect), might continue to voice his opinions in the next government. Moreover, Yoo, who once served as Yoon's spokesperson but resigned midway, is running for Gyeonggi Province governor and is regarded as having gained "Yoon's support." Therefore, Kim is confident in securing support from the central government.

Former lawmaker Yoo said, "This election may be my last chance to work, so I earnestly ask the residents of Gyeonggi Province and our party members to give me the opportunity to serve," adding, "If you elect me, I promise to become the best and proud governor of Gyeonggi Province."

Yoo's remarks imply that this Gyeonggi Province governor election is a political life-or-death contest. After losing the People Power Party presidential primary, Yoo had considered retiring from politics, but by running as a candidate for governor of Gyeonggi Province, he expressed his intention to approach the election as a final opportunity. He has stated that he must become a successful governor of Gyeonggi Province to make his next political move.
