Jeonnam National University Kendo Club Jeongumhoe Shines at National University Kendo Championship

[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Park Jin-hyung] The Kendo club of Chonnam National University made a remarkable achievement by winning the men's individual event in the club division at the National University Kendo Championship.

Chonnam National University's Kendo club, "Jeongumhoe," hosted by the Korea Kendo Association, the Korea University Kendo Federation, and the Muan County Kendo Association, held the Spring National University Kendo Championship from the 8th to the 10th at the Muan County Sports Park Indoor Gymnasium. Student Oh Geum-heon (4th year, Department of Chinese Literature) won the men's club division individual event by consecutively defeating competitors from the Korean National Police University, Kyungpook National University, and Gyeongsang National University.

Student Oh Geum-heon is a 4th dan Kendo practitioner and is known to come from a Kendo family, with his father holding a 7th dan and his mother a 5th dan.

Additionally, Jeongumhoe narrowly lost by one point in the men's club division team final against Dong-A University but proudly secured second place. The women's club division also achieved third place in the team event, fully demonstrating the skills of Chonnam National University's Kendo club.

Despite the COVID-19 situation, over 500 students from more than 30 universities nationwide participated in this competition, which was divided into Division 1 (professional players), Division 2 (semi-professionals), and Division 3 (amateurs) club divisions.

"Jeongumhoe" (President Oh Geum-heon) was originally called "Rangdohoe" but changed its name to reflect the initials of Chonnam National University's Kendo club. Currently, about 40 male and female student members are active, participating annually in the spring and fall championships as well as the President's Cup, enhancing the prestige of Chonnam National University.
